1 janv. 1859 - Second pushes for independence

Description:

In 1859, the final push for Italian unification began to form, led by the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. This Kingdom was led by Victor Emmanuel II, and the revolution was largely orchestrated by the Prime Minister, Count Camillo di Cavour, who secured an alliance with France. After the Franco-Austrian War of 1859, Lombardy was added to the holdings of Piedmont-Sardinia as a result of the alliance with France.

After the Franco-Austrian War, a series of elections led the northern Italian states to join the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, while Piedmont-Sardinia ceded Savoy and Nice to France.
