1 févr. 1820 - Formation of the Carbonari
Description:
Throughout the mid-1800s, the concept of unification began to gain popularity throughout Italy. Secret societies formed throughout this time period to oppose the current conservative regimes, promote Italian nationalism, and/or promote the idea of a unified Italian political state. The Carbonari was one such society, inspired heavily by ideals of the French revolution. Despite facing heavy persecution by reining authorities, members of the Carbonari continued to meet from 1820 until after Italian unification.
