Carla Hayden was appointed by President Barack Obama on this day as the 14th Librarian of Congress. She is the first African American and the first woman to hold this position. Prior to taking this appointment, Dr. Hayden was the CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, Maryland for 23 years and has worked as a librarian since 1979.
