15 juill. 1801 - Concordat
Description:
This was an agreement between Napoleon and the Church in Paris and Rome. This re-established the Roman Catholic Church in France, with some conditions that prevented it from being the same power that it was pre revolution. Napoleon had power to choose bishops, but the Pope was able to approve them, and the government had to accept the priests chosen by the bishops. Religious freedom also remained, but Napoleon declared Catholicism as the religion of the majority.
