Description:

type of government that overthrew the directory, comprised of three consuls, Emmanuel-Joseph Sieyès, Pierre-Roger Ducos, and Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon was the first consul, and the one with all the actual power, while the other two were more for looks, hiding the fact that Napoleon was functioning as the head of state with authority in his possession. Some of the reforms included making the executive branch the only branch with actual legal power, secret police to keep rebellion under control, and the making of elections into little more than a show.
