15 août 1947 - India Granted Independence
Description:
India was a colony of Britain that had steadily been urging more for self-rule after World War I. A nonviolent movement of non-co-operation was begun by Mahatma Ghandi and Jawaharlal Nehru and Britain slowly began to reform legislation. After the Indian National Congress pushed again for non-co-operation, Britain gave independence to India and Pakistan. This led to Extreme violence in the newly-formed countries and marked the start of the short period during which Britain would lose most of the Empire.
