Description:

The first missionaries called to England were g Heber C. Kimble, Orson Hyde, Willard Richards, and Joseph Fielding, John Goodson, Isaac Russell, and John Snyder. They arrived at Liverpool on 20 July 1837. They left for Preston two days later. After a week of preaching in Preston they baptized nine people in the River Ribble in front of a crowed of thousands. On 6 August 1837 the first branch of the church was established in Preston. This branch is the oldest functioning unit in the Church to this day. By the end of 1837 there were many church branches in England including in: Alston, Bedford, Whittle, Daubers, Hunter's Hill, Chatburn, and Penwortham. By April, 1838 membership to the Church in England had grown to 15,200 people. On April 20, 1838 the first missionaries who were not going to contunue serving the Lord in England left back for the U.S.
