Since the apennines were a large environmental barrier, her horse and her faced many struggles. They had to escape packs of wolves, find overnight shelters and manage their limited food supply. On the second night of her journey, when she was sleeping under a tree, her fairy godmother appeared in her dreams. She told Hazel that she was doing the right thing, and that her parents would’ve been proud of her. She advised her to take a special shorter route, avoiding any inns and not to let temptation deceive her. Otherwise, all hopes of her finding her sister would be diminished and she would be stuck in the mountains forever.
