Description:

On January 1st 1901, 100,000 people gathered in Centennial Park to see the Governor General, Lord Hopetoun claimed the commonwealth of Australia. Federation was when Australia came together as a nation and had centralised control. The people agreed on the six colonies becoming a nation. People celebrated the federation on Australia by having fireworks, street parties, parades and picnics. When federation was claimed, Edmun Barton was sworn in as Australia's first Prime Minister. The six different colonies then came the six states of Australia. They though that coming together as a nation would help the defence forces, the trade, the immigration, the distance, nationalism, the services and the foreign policies.

This changed Australia by it becoming united. Australia was one person, under one flag and under one destiny. Everything would be shared around.
