Description:

In 1812, after the revolution and the impact of newspapers within the revolution, the first constitution in Mexico of Spain by decree of the Cortes, included the freedom of the press. This did not please the Mexican government, and they tried to suppress the document from passion. Their efforts did not succeed and by Oct of that year freedom of press was officially declared. The beginning of this era started off with many start up papers that were poorly researched and written. Many started warfare and confrontation, and because of this, 63 days later the government took away freedom of press along with the entire constitution.

Dec 3 1812, Lizardi of “el Pensador Mexicana wrote of his opposition of government policy and advocated for the viceroy to abolish it. This played a part in the abolishment of freedom of press, as well as landed Lizardi in jail for seven months
