21 sept. 454 - Murder of Flavius Aetius

Description:

Because of his success in the battle of the Catalaunian Plains, Aetius brought the jealousy of the imperial family who was worried that his popularity would allow him to name himself emperor.

Disgraced and accused of being a "romanised Hun" by his enemies, Aetius is murdered by the emperor Valentinian the Third himself on the 21st of September 454.

When the emperor asked another if he did good, the Roman responded: "I do not know if you did good or bad, but I do know that with your left hand you sliced off your right".

Aetius was later avenged six months later by two members of his personal guards, Thraustila and Optila, who murder the emperor Valentinian the Third in retribution.
