A new and more original style that developed in Western Europe. It consisted of using tall spires and arching windows. The style was mainly used in churches, cathedrals, and palaces. The creation of the Gothic style was important because it showed the difference between it and the Byzantine Empire. Also, it reflected Western Europe's ability to find new means of expression and advancements in technology and architecture.
