1 janv. 1850 - Underground Railroad
Description:
The Underground Railroad brought over 15,000 African American refugees to the Province of Canada. It was a secret network built of people against slavery, becoming the largest anti-slavery freedom movement in North America. A vast system of routes beginning from the southern United States and travelling to the northern United States and Canada helped escaped slaves find freedom. Certain locations were safe houses where the escaped slaves could shelter for a short period of time.
