Candide is a French satire written by one of the greatest masterminds of the Enlightenment, Voltaire. It was written on June 9th, 1759. Candide was a criticism of the European world, as Voltaire disagreed with many things during this time. He liked to attack both the Church and the state, although he tends to hone in on the power of the nobility. It picks fun of many Enlightenment theories and philosophers. Candide was important because it highlighted some of the issues of the Enlightenment, and really made people question the reality of this time.
