1 janv. 1842 - Reparations and Demobilisation

Description:

The Qing community obliged to pay the British colony 6 million silver dollars to reclaim the large stock of opium confiscated, and a further amount of 3 million for debts owed to the British merchants in Canton, as stated in Articles IV and V in the Treaty of Nanjing. As if that wasn’t enough, they complied to pay another 12 million in war reparations for the war cost. The total sum of 21 million dollars were to be paid over 3 separate years (Article VII). The Chinese undertook the task to release the British soldiers from their prison, as well as a general amnesty towards all Chinese subjects who sided with the British in the war, as stated in Articles VIII and IX. The British complied to withdraw all troops from their various outposts, and gave their word to not interfere with the Chinese trade in general, after the first installment of money had been received.
