Battle between the Safavids and Ottomans in which the Safavids are resoundingly defeated. Ottomans not only have more troops, but also cannons, which the Safavids refuse to use as they think its un-masculine. While the cannons don't really work, they scare the horses and cause the Safavid horses to flee, which scatters the army. As a result of their victory, the Ottomans control Anatolia, Iraq, and Baghdad, which sets the western borders of Iran to this day. The threat of the Ottomans eventually causes the Safavid capital to be moved from Tabriz to Isfahan, which is farther away from the border. The battle is a major blow to Ismail's ego, and he becomes an alcoholic to cope with the outcome.
