The October 1943 Hellmuth affair was an argument by Peròn's opposition to go against him during his first campaign. The Hellmuth affair happened because that Argentina had plans to buy arms from Nazi Germany. The event caused a concern in the USA that Argentina would turn into a fascist. However, the Hellmuth Affair is a part of a populist, Però n's, rise to power because of the questions of how they will lead. Peròn craft fully responded to his opposition by asking his supporters if they would rather have US rule or his rule. Another reference to Peròn's populist ideology based on nationalism and wanting Argentina to win. As far as Peròn's rise to power, the opponent's words did not detract from his campaign, and he became the leader of Argentina in 1946. With Peròn winning 52% of the vote.
