From April 12, 1861- May 9, 1865 the United States of America are enveloped in the Civil War. The Civil war as many know was fought between the northern and southern half of the states .One of the main factors that caused the war was slavery. Slavery was a huge deal in the southern states where slaves were used as farm laborers. The northern side saw this as immoral, unnecessary, and wrong. The south claimed that the common government didn't have the power to end slavery without the state's consent. Southerners were convinced that the government would attempt to abolish slavery nation-wide, after this, eleven states left the United States. These states formed the Confederate States of America. Another reason being state's rights. The federal government and the individual states struggled over political power. It generally rested on the state's sovereignty. That in the United States the terminal source of political authority was the states.
