11 sept. 1846 - Irish American Immigration Boom

Description:

After the ‘Potato Blight’ an enormous amount of Irish moved to America. This occurred because of the massive famine in Ireland. The Irish decided that there was much more opportunity to survive in America than in Ireland. Some landlords even found out that it was cheaper to send their Irish tenants across the Atlantic than it was to keep them in Ireland.
This massive influx would continue well into the 60’s and onwards. There were also other smaller immigration booms in later years.
