28 déc. 1814 - Battle of New Orleans

Description:

An impressive battle during the War of 1812 where the British army attempted to take control of the Mississippi River and was intervened at New Orleans by U.S troops. Due to the foolish frontal attack, General Andrew Jackson led a U.S military force consisting of frontier soldiers, free African Americans, and Creoles. As they ultimately defeated the British forces' efforts for an upper hand, General Jackson received important recognition and popularity amongst the American people. As the battle occurred after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed, it was considered rather meaningless in the context of military effort yet established a sense of American honor and nationalism through its victory.
