Description:

As economic hardships faced the Madison's presidency, extended into 1810. Nathanial Macon, a North Carolina representative in both house, introduced a bill that restored U.S trade with Britain and France. It entitled that if either Britain or France agreed to respect U.S neutral rights at sea, then the U.S would prohibit trade with that nation's enemy. Yet despite the U.S efforts as President Madison carried out the arrangement by embargoing U.S trade with Britain in 1811. French leader, Napoleon, did not execute his end of the agreement. Resilting in the French continuing to seize American merchant ships, and Britain becoming a central of hostility due to the circumstances inflicted on them regarding the embargo. Essentially, Macon's Bill No.2 did not necessarily resolve anything. But, played a role for the upcoming War of 1812 between Britain and the U.S nation.
