1 janv. 571 - Anglo-Saxons
Description:
their jewelery was beautiful and intricate with beaded bracelets and necklaces.
The men in Anglo-Saxon England wore long cloaks, and loose tunic like shirts. The tunics were cinched with belts, which men hung necessary tools from like knives and bags. They wore trousers held up by a second belt under the tunic, or tight leggings created from wrapping strips of cloth around their legs.
There were two main types of cloaks worn by men in this time period, the long cloak and the short cloak. The short cloak was used for horse-back riding so as to stay out of the way. Cloaks fastened at the shoulder so it was easy to move one half out of the way and have space to move your arms around.
Fun fact: short hair for men was a more Roman fashion, otherwise long hair was the norm. In Alfred’s Law Codes there are even fines for people who cut off someone else’s hair without their permission.
Earrings were popular, often made from precious materials, such as pearl, crystal or garnets. Most people did not wear any rings on their fingers, and women did not wear much make up.
Belts and belt buckles were important elements of Anglo-Saxon clothes, especially for men. Belts were usually made from leather and often had decorative items or tools hanging from them.
Evidence shows that the skin of cattle, deer, goat, pig and sheep were used to make leather goods. Although only tiny remnants of leather survive, they are usually attached to buckles and to wrist clasps. Leather was probably used to make belts, suspension straps, and cuffs, although cloth was also used to make those items.
