1 janv. 1832 - Nullification Crisis

Description:

1) In 1828, South Carolina advanced the theory of nullification which asserted that states could nullify acts of Congress that exceeded their power in response to an unfavorable federal tariff. A show of military force by Andrew Jackson and the revision of the tariff ended the crisis. 2) This crisis revealed the danger of federal power vs. state rights. Along with the gain of attention of the northern anti-slavery voices, the South started to think about if the northern-dominated government decide to end slavery, should the South nullify the law or quit the Union.
