Description:
1) In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as new president, with no support from the South. As a Republican, his party’s anti-slavery outlook struck fear into many Southerners. 2) On December 20, 1860, South Carolina seceded from the USA. Six more south states followed in the spring of 1861.
