Description:

Henrietta was enslaved in Kentucky, moved to Cincinnati, kidnapped and then re-enslaved during the Civil War. Zebulon Word filed a lawsuit for damages and lost wages of twenty thousand; federal courts handed Wood a verdict for only 2,500. To this day this is the largest federal payment by the U.S. as restitution for slavery.
