The Spanish influenza pandemic is the deadliest in history since it infected about 500 million people worldwide and led to the deaths of 20 to 50 million people. Influenza was first observed in Europe, the United States and parts of Asia, but soon spread rapidly throughout the world. Bodies quickly accumulated in temporary morgues before the virus ceased to spread and ceased to exist.
