25 avr. 1915 - Battle of Gallipoli
Description:
The Battle of Gallipoli was an unsuccessful attempt by the Allied powers to control the sea route from Europe to Russia. It began with a failed naval attack by British and French ships, and then continued with an invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula with the participation of British and French troops and units of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Turkish resistance hindered the success of the invasion due to the inaccurate knowledge of the terrain of the allied powers. By mid-October, the Allied forces suffered heavy losses and soon the evacuation began in December 1915 and was completed early next January.
