17 févr. 2017 - "100 Years of Black Fashion"

Description:

Starting in the 1920s, this one minute long Buzzfeed video depicts black men and women’s fashion for each decade, all the way until today. The video reflects vintage clothing that these men and women would wear, including cultural movements and national events that shaped these looks. For example, the models that represent the 1940s fashion wear military uniforms, because a shocking number of black people’s contributions to WWII efforts have been overlooked. I chose to connect this video to Geraldo Rivera’s interview in response to Rivera’s own comments about black fashion. Rivera condemned the look of hip hop artists, saying “a black kid from Harlem” is lead astray by artists “who [have] succeeded in life walking around with his pants around his ass and with visible tattoos...” By linking this video, I present a favorable view, which celebrates black culture and black fashion.
