Following A$AP Yams’ death in 2015, A$AP Mob released a number of projects honoring the life of their friend and founder. They released two albums commemorating his life, a book titled A$AP Yams: Gems, containing his latest and best tweets, and they started an annual music festival called “Yams Day.” The first Yams Day happened in 2016, the year following the death of A$AP Yams. In 2017, the official lineup for Yams Day was: A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Mob, Danny Brown, TDE, Joey Badass, Kirk Knight, Lil Uzi Vert, Flatbush Zombies, Playboi Carti, Camron, Retch, T Pain, and Sha Hef with special appearance by Tyler the Creator. A$AP Rocky first released the lineup as an image via his twitter, and this is when I first encountered it. It follows the linear theme of A$AP Yams’ memorial within the hip hop community, and still connects directly to Frank Ocean’s “pour up for A$AP,” line on “Nikes.”
