1 déc. 1984 - Feminist Theory

Description:

Black American activist, bell hooks, wrote Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center. This was her second book, following her first, Ain’t I a Woman, which she wrote at age 19. Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center, is one of bell hooks most prominent works. The book focuses on the empowerment of all women, regardless on race or class, with a particular attention to the role of violence and white supremacy in patriarchy. I quote, from Chapter 9, page 118, “White male supremacy encourages the use of abusive force to maintain white male domination of women… it is this belief system that is the foundation on which ideologies of group oppression are based. When reading The College Dropout Lyrics, on lead track “It All Falls Down,” Kanye says “a drug dealer buys Jordans, a crackhead buys crack, and the white man gets paid off all that.” Both of these artists are discussing the same theory of economic inequality and group based oppression.
