 - Fought North of Dublin
- With the help of the French and Irish, James attempted to win back his throne
- Celebrated as a Protestant win in Ireland 
- Jacobite army:
     - 23,500
     - Irish Catholics reinforced by 6,000 French troops
     - Irish infantry were mainly untrained peasants who had been pressed into military service 
     - Only Irish cavalry were of a higher calibre
- William's army:
     - 36,000
     - Drew on forces from Netherlands and Denmark
     - Professional soldiers
     - William commanded 8 times more troops than James 
- William wounded after surveying a possible crossing 
- Sent 9,000 men to cross 
- James half his army
- At the main ford the elite Dutch Blue Guards forced their across the river
- Jacobite counterattack pinned them down
- Williamite cavalry crossed and forced Jaocbites to retreat
- A successful rear guard action saved many Jacobite lives
- The threat of Catholic restoration ended
