14 avr. 1931 - Second Spanish Republic instituted

Description:

A new form of government was established after previous leader Miguel Primo de Rivera was overthrown. This new form of government was ultimately a switch from a monarchy to a republic. This new Spanish Republic established freedom of speech and freedom of association, extended suffrage to women, allowed divorce, and took away the Spanish nobility of any special legal status. It attempted to disestablish the Roman Catholic Church, however this was reversed by the Cortes later in the year. This new governmnet was implemenetd in order to try and lead Spain through the 20th centuruy. However, the republic just ended up becoming super controversial and conflicted with many revolts and conflicts between left and right wing politics.
