15 janv. 1931 - Democratic elections reinstated in Spain

Description:

Alfonso XIII had been in power in Spain since 1902 and he was very much against democracy. In 1923 he was overthrown by Miguel Primo de Rivera because of his anti-democratic ways. He remained in power until Alfonso took control again in 1930 and then allowed there to be democratic elections in 1931. The large majority of Spanish voters wanted there to be a democratic government so it was advised that Alfonso were to just completely flee the country to avoid any violence at the time.
