Description:
The International Brigades were a group of foreign volunteers that came from about 50 different countries that fought in Spain on the side of the Republicans. Volunteers came from a variety of countries including France, Germany, and the United States. The total number of volunteers reached about 60,000 without going past 20,000 volunteers at one time. The Brigades were an effective force on the Republican side. However the Brigades would later be formally withdrawn by the Spanish government.
