The first Manurewa Parade of Homes is opened in Percival Street and Bowater Place on the Bowater Estate. At the time Manurewa is growing rapidly and a number of similar group housing estates are in the planning stages; for instance, about this time Manurewa Borough Council approves a 120-acre subdivision in the vicinity of Coxhead Road and the McDougall Block subdivision between Grande Vue and Oram Roads
