1 août 1866 - Seven Weeks War
Description:
While the war took place over a seven week time period, I have elected to place this rather short war somewhere in the middle of the time span, as this war finished after only seven weeks, on August 23, 1866. After only a few years of holding the German states together, Prussia attacked Austria, kicking the Austrians out of Germany. Prussia would go on to unite all of modern day Germany. The war was near the Southern area of modern day Germany. The Prussians' reasoning for the war was a dispute over a smaller territory. After attempts to solve the issue diplomatically went sour, the Prussians started military preparations. This series of events would lead to the formation of the Second Reich, leading to World War 1, the Wiemar Republic, and then the Third Reich, more commonly known as Nazi Germany.Source:
