Anarchist protests against the left wing which were in power at the time became more common and the working class was urged to unite and fight back against their oppressors being the State, wealthy landowners, and the church. One of these protests turned horrific leaving twenty one dead and some burned alive. The protests were getting so severe that the state had to send assault guards to control the protests. The guards rounded up protesters that were attacking a near by civil guard barrack. An anarchist and his sons locked themselves in a small home in the village and fired shots killing an officer so the officers returned with machine gun fire on the home and even set it on fire. The officers then continued to shoot people trying to escape the fire and rounded up fourteen more protesters to execute them saying that they had gotten instructions from Madrid to take no prisoners. This attack caused outrage as multiple innocent people had been executed and it caused the left wing to lose support after people learned of the orders the officers were given. The right wing also took this oppurtunity to label the left as murderers and make them lose supporters.
