3 janv. 1933 - The Casas Viejas Massacre

Description:

In January 1933, workers who were part of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo organised a protest march, because they were thorougly upset because of the low wages and high unemployment rates. On January 11th 1933 the government had attempted to stop the protests by sending assault guardsto Casas Viejas fot the civilians who attacked the local Civil Guard barracks. In fear of their lives many people had left the village. But a small group attempted to resist the arrest and barricaded themselves in the home of Curro Cruz. Causing a lot of tension, leaving 21 people dead in total, some burned alive within their own homes. This had cuased a national outrage and tainted the left wings reputation and affected their overall power.
