Description:

The Washington Naval Treaty was a treaty signed during 1922 between the major nations that had won World War 1, which agreed to prevent war by restricting naval construction. Between 1921 and 1922, the world's largest naval powers gathered in Washington D.C. for a conference to consider naval disarmament and ways to retain growing stress in East Asia. In the wake of World War 1, Leaders in the international community wanted to prevent the possibility of another war. The naval treaty led to an effective end to building new battleship sleets and those few ships that were built were limited in size and armament. they also got rid of existing capital ships. Some ships under construction were turned into aircraft carriers instead.
