18 h 30 min, 17 juin 2004 ans - Speed and Matthew discover the super herd outside the prison. (Descent)

- Day 334
- It takes them about half an hour to get to the highest point in Meriwether County, not far from the intersection of Highway 85 and Millard Drive, just outside Yarlsburg. First they have to circle back to where Bob's pickup is stuck in the mire and once they get it moving they drive five miles to reach Millard.
- Matthew doesn't tell Speed what it is he wants to show him which annoys Speed. Is it a fuel source they didn't think of? Another Walmart they've missed? Speed then realises this area is the same location the Governor staged the military vehicles before they approached the prison (see day 330). They get out the truck and walk into a clearing by the woods. Speed tries to not look at the tire tracks from the convoy which have scarred the ground. Even the Abrams tank's tracks are visible.
- At the edge of the forest Matthew hands Speed the binoculars and tells him to look down the meadow. Fog and smoke still surrounds the ruins of Meriwether County Correctional Facility. To the left of the complex a large gathering of the dead emerge out the forest, bigger than they've ever seen before. Speed remembers the herd they faced (see day 332), but nothing like this!
- He pukes at the sight of it. Matthew takes back the binoculars and they immediately have to do something about this.
