15 juin 1215 - Magna Carta
Description:
Medieval Latin for "the Great Charter of Liberties". It was a charter of rights agreed to by King John of England at Runnymede, effectively the first European constitution. It established the principle that everyone, including the king, was subject to the law. The 39th clause gave all "free men" the right to justice and a fair trial. The Magna Carta paved the way for challenging the autocracy of the king.
