Description:

The march from Selma to Montgomery began with civil rights activist John Lewis as leader. Around 600 protesters walked onto the Edmund Pettus bridge before they were blocked by local police and state troopers that ordered them to turn around. Protesters continued to march and the police attacked with tear gas, attack dogs and beating the protesters with their clubs. over 50 was hospitalized and that day came to be known as Bloody Sunday.
