1 nov 1919 - November 1919: First Palmer Raid
Description:
Raids and arrests during November 1919 and January 1920. These raids were lead by Alexander Palmer, who was the Attorney General at the time. These were targeting Leftists and radicals. Although around 500 foreign citizens were deported, including several leftist leaders, Palmer's efforts were frustrated by the Department of Labor. This was because the Dept. of Labor had the power to deport citizens, and the officials within this group objected to Palmer's methods.
