The first mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart using a rectangular wooden shell with 2 metal wheels attached at the bottom. He had invented it but had not had it patent until 1967 but even then he did not receive the patent until 1970. With the invention of the mouse people were allowed to navigate the computer a little more easily. Fun fact the the reason he called it a mouse was because the wire that came out of the back looked like a tail.
