19 oct. 1781 - Surrender at Yorktown

Description:

The Surrender at Yorktown is one of the most iconic parts of the war, probably because it was the battle basically ended the war. On October 19, 1781, after about 20 days of fighting Charles Cornwallis finally surrendered to George Washington. A little while after Cornwallis surrendered the Treaty of Paris was signed stating that the war was officially over and the colonists had gained their independence. Both sides had many soldiers on their side, but Washington had won because he trapped Cornwallis’s troops. So, let’s be glad that the battle of Yorktown happened because without it, we might not be as independent from Great Britain as we are now.
