This article, written by psychologist Evelyn Hooker dispelled many of the perceptions of gay men. The article found that homosexual men and heterosexual men were not different mentally, this research eventually led to the removal of homosexuality as a mental illness. Despite the changes in the field of psychology, Hooker's research had little baring on the Lavender Scare which continued for many more decades.
