5 déc. 1955 - MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association) is set up

Description:

During the evening of the 5th December, a large group gathered at Holt Street Baptist Church
They set up the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA) which aimed to improve integration through Montgomery - beginning with buses
Martin Luther King was chosen as its chairman
The MIA decided to continue the boycott until the bus company agreed to their demands:
Drivers should treat all AA passengers with respect
Black drivers should be used for routes with mostly black passengers
AAs should not have to leave their seats in the ‘colored’ section of the bus so white people could sit down
King and other leaders met with the bus company on 8th December
They refused all of the demands - this led to a 381 day boycott continuation and inflicted serious financial harm on the company
As a result, their demands hardened → began to demand a complete end to segregation
