Description:

1）This compromise allowed CA to be admitted as a free state, strengthened the Fugitive Slave Law, implemented popular sovereignty in Utah and New Mexico concerning the question of slavery and the abolished the slave trade in D.C. (not slavery). 2）The new version of Fugitive Slave Law caused many resistance against it from Northern abolitionists. By forcing non-slaveholders to participate in slavery, it led to increased polarization among centrist citizens. It tried to balance the intension between the north and the south, but it actually made it worse, and further split the nation.
