17 déc. 1941 - Re-evaluation of OT Role in Veteran Hospitals, OT Becomes under Medical Services

Description:

Mrs. Olive Noble Whillans was given the
responsibility of completely revamping and expanding occupational therapy services in the veterans hospitals across Canada. This was based upon a dramatic transformation. The veteran occupational therapy aides who had remained in these hospitals since World War I were not within the medical services but under the Soldiers Civilian Re-establishment. Mrs. Whillans and her new staffs operated within the medical services of the Department of Veterans Affairs as it became known in 1944, at which time the old Department of Pensions and National Health became two separate government departments. We should be
familiar with the fine work this reformation produced, the intensive recruitment of young, trained, enthusiastic therapists, the procurement of new and up-to-date equipment and the development of medically oriented treatment
