3 août 1956 - Indian Relocation Act

Description:

In another attempt to get Native Americans to assimilate, the U.S. government put the Indian Relocation Act into place. The act was purely voluntary, and would move natives from rural reservations into cities, help them get jobs and housing, and give them a vocational education. Some natives benefited from this as it granted them so many new opportunities, but for some, it took away their sense of identity as well as exposed them to more segregation and discrimination.
